Our Kelly Sports Traditional Māori Games Taonga Tākaro programmes provide students with meaningful opportunities to engage with traditional Māori games while extending learning about Māori culture beyond the classroom. Designed for school-aged children, these programmes support the revival and ongoing practice of traditional games in a fun, active, and inclusive environment.

Through participation in Taonga Tākaro, children are encouraged to experience the holistic nature of Māori culture while developing physical skills and confidence. Sessions may include te reo Māori learning, progressive skill development, and practical game play. We welcome and encourage teacher participation in sessions to support sustainability and strengthen connections to this important part of Aotearoa New Zealand’s heritage.

Through our Traditional Māori Games Taonga Tākaro programmes, we support the development of:

Whanaungatanga – building relationships, inclusion, and connections

Manaakitanga – kindness, care, and support for others
