How are the sessions delivered?
A trained Kelly Sports coach visits your centre and delivers engaging, age-appropriate sessions that encourage active participation and learning through play.
Our preschool programme, Sporty Shorties, is specially designed for tamariki in early learning environments.
Kelly Sports coaches visit early childhood centres for 1–2 hours per week to deliver fun, engaging sessions that introduce fundamental movement and early sporting skills. Through play-based activities, children build confidence, develop coordination, and begin to form a positive relationship with physical activity from a young age.
Alignment with Te Whāriki
Sporty Shorties aligns with Te Whāriki, with a strong focus on the Wellbeing-Mana Atua and Exploration-Mana Aotūroa. The programme nurtures children’s physical wellbeing, encourages active exploration, and supports the development of confidence, independence, and resilience through movement and play.
Our sessions provide opportunities for children to learn new skills, take risks in a safe environment, and experience success, while also supporting social interaction and positive relationships.
The programme develops:
Locomotor skills (running, jumping, hopping)
Stability skills (balancing, twisting, turning)
Manipulative skills (throwing, catching, kicking)
Sporty Shorties offers something fun, exciting, and new for children, helping them learn, move, and thrive through active play.
